Custom subdomain — school.yourdomain.com

From its Q1 2027 launch, use a subdomain on your own domain from the Starter plan (e.g. school.yourdomain.com) pointing via CNAME to connect.slonto.com.

Soon — Q1 2027 Custom domains arrive in Q1 2027: this guide gets you ready for launch day.

What is a custom subdomain?

Your space is not on slonto.com/your_handle but on a subdomain of your own domain, e.g. school.yourdomain.com, academy.yourdomain.com or app.yourdomain.com. You keep ownership of your domain, Slonto just serves your space through that subdomain.

How to set it up in 2 steps

At your host / DNS (OVH, Cloudflare, Gandi, etc.)

Create a CNAME record: name = school (or academy), target = connect.slonto.com, TTL = Auto. Example: school.yourdomain.com CNAME connect.slonto.com.

In Slonto (Settings → Domain)

Enter your full subdomain (school.yourdomain.com) and validate. Slonto automatically provisions the SSL certificate (Let’s Encrypt) and checks DNS. Delay: 5 min to 2 h depending on propagation.

school.votredomaine.com CNAME connect.slonto.com

school.yourdomain.com CNAME connect.slonto.com

Verification & delays

Use dig school.yourdomain.com CNAME or https://dnschecker.org to see propagation. While the CNAME is not visible, Slonto shows “Awaiting validation”. Once validated, SSL is active and your space is reachable over https.

Limits & best practices

  • 1 custom subdomain per space from the Starter plan (fair use).
  • The subdomain must be a real subdomain (school.yourdomain.com), not a root domain (yourdomain.com) nor a path (yourdomain.com/school).
  • You keep control of your DNS: delete the CNAME to cut the link at any time.

Frequently asked questions

Which CNAME target should I enter? +

Always connect.slonto.com, regardless of your host. Do not point to an IP.

How long does it take to work? +

The CNAME propagates in a few minutes to 2 hours. The SSL certificate is issued right after, automatically.

Can I use the root domain? +

No — use a subdomain (school.yourdomain.com). The root domain requires an ANAME/ALIAS record not supported in V1.
